I Like Fruit!

As we come into season with more fruits it is meaningful to look at how we can incorporate them into our diets. I think often times we forget how good fruit can be for us. Some of the major benefits of fruit are: great fiber content, low in calories, high water content for some, and the plethora of vitamins and nutrients found in each and every one. Here are a few easy tips that can help you increase fruit intake in your mundane, everyday diet routine and enjoy nature's bounty.

-First off and most importantly, lean towards shopping seasonally- fruits will be at their best while in season and are usually less expensive.

-Wash and prep fruits (and veggies) beforehand when you may have some down time. Then when life gets chaotic you will have healthier options to turn to for a snack or to add to your meal.

-Try eating a variety of different fruits since they will each contain different vitamins and nutrients. Not all fruit is created equally.

-Think about using fruits in a less conventional way! Using them to make applesauce or spreads, as an addition to salads, dehydrating them, adding dips to accompany them (try yogurt or peanut butter), or blending up smoothies, my personal favorite, are all great ways to eat more fruit in exciting ways.

-Last but certainly not least, always have a bowl of grab n' go fruit in your kitchen or on your table; prewashed of course. Some of these fruits can be: apples, oranges, mandarins, bananas, or kiwi.

I hope these were a few helpful tips or reminders to help you either continue or add more fruits to your diet and enjoy this earth given dessert.
